About LIFT

A future where everyone can fly

We believe that future is starting right now. LIFT is making the joy and utility of personal, vertical flight accessible to everyone.

The problem

Cities grew up. Roads didn’t.

It’s a fundamental geometry problem. Cities have grown into three dimensions, with taller buildings, denser populations and more cars every year, while the road network that serves them is still stuck on a flat, two-dimensional grid. Critical transportation has to expand into the third dimension.

54hours the average American spends in traffic each year
85%of trips are under 15 miles
90%of trips have just one person on board

Helicopters already fly in that third dimension, but they are loud and expensive, so vertical flight has been out of reach for all but a few. We think the short, single-person trips that make up most travel are best served by small, quiet, hover-optimized eVTOL aircraft that can take off and land almost anywhere.

Our approach

Fly first, then scale

Rather than wait years for certification, LIFT designed HEXA for the FAA’s ultralight rules, put it in the air with real customers, and is building every next step on that experience.

  1. 01Hover optimized, for short rangeThe safest possible aircraft for short flights: no wings, maximum redundancy.
  2. 02Ultralight firstAnyone can fly HEXA under Part 103, with no pilot’s license required.
  3. 03Flying with customersThe world’s first pay-per-flight eVTOL operations, launched in Austin in 2023, then a 25-city U.S. tour in 2024.
  4. 04Built for public safetyThrough AirFirst, responder-flown HEXA for EMS, fire, police and rescue: help on scene faster.

Safety Advisory Board

Advised by leaders in aviation safety

To bring the best practices of aviation safety, especially for ultralight and light-sport aircraft, into everything we build, we’ve assembled an advisory board of leading experts. We consult them on every safety milestone, from how we design and manufacture HEXA to the safety culture we build around it.

Dr. Charles Justiz

Former Chief of Aviation Safety, NASA

NASA research pilot who trained every astronaut who flew the Space Shuttle, with more than 15,000 flight hours in over 100 aircraft types. He developed NASA’s Crew Resource Management program and led its aviation safety office.

Dan Johnson
